Folded Onigiri (Rice Ball)
Onigiri is a classic and beloved food among Japanese filled with savoury ingredients as you like.Folded onigiri is made by placing rice and filling on nori and folding it into a triangle shape, instead of shaping it by hand.
Ingredients
For 2 onigiri:
- 200 g cooked rice
- 1 sheet of nori seaweed
- grilled salmon (filling of your choice)
Instructions
- Lightly salt a salmon fillet, then grill it. Remove the skin and bones, then break it up with a fork.
- Cut a sheet of nori seaweed in half lengthways. Place one cut nori lengthways.
- Leave about 2 inches of space at the bottom, then place half of the rice (50g) slightly below the center of the nori.
- Fold the bottom left corner upward, using the bottom right corner as a pivot point covering the rice. Then fold the bottom right corner to meet the top left corner. Lastly, fold the top right corner over, forming a triangle.
- Finish by placing the filling on the tip of the onigiri.
