Dear Japanese Food Lovers,

Hello from Aiko at isfor WA, Oxford!

Half term is about to start — which of course means one thing… lunchbox-making begins again!

So today, I thought I’d share the lunches I often make for my daughter, along with a few little tips.

⭐ My Top 3 Lunchbox Favourites

No. 3 – Meat Pasta
A simple meat pasta is always reliable. My secret? I add a little miso as a hidden ingredient. It deepens the flavour and, wonderfully, it still tastes delicious even when cold.

No. 2 – Inari Sushi
Rice tucked inside sweet and savoury simmered tofu pockets (abura-age). The seasoned tofu keeps the rice soft, so it doesn’t go hard by lunchtime — always a good thing!

No. 1 – The Classic Onigiri
You can’t beat the traditional rice ball. The best part is the variety — change the filling, mix in some furikake, or try different flavour combinations. It’s simple, but never boring.

Mornings can be busy, but when my daughter opens her lunchbox and feels happy, it makes it all worthwhile.

I hope you all have a lovely half term.
