Dear Japanese Food Lovers,
Hello from Aiko at isfor WA, Oxford!
Just to be clear – I donāt eat only Japanese food (lol)! I love exploring all kinds of cuisines. Sometimes I enjoy vegan dishes too, and Iām amazed by the variety here compared to Japan. Looking forward to sharing more tasty discoveries with you!
Have you ever heard of Ichiju-Sansai? Itās a traditional Japanese meal structure that perfectly balances nutrition and flavour. The phrase means āone soup, three dishes,ā and itās the foundation of a wholesome Japanese dinner.
What is Ichiju-Sansai?
- One Soup:Ā Typically miso soup or a clear broth.
- Three Dishes:
- One main dishĀ ā often fish, chicken, or tofu.
- Two side dishesĀ ā usually seasonal vegetables or pickled items.
- One main dishĀ ā often fish, chicken, or tofu.
This meal style highlights seasonal ingredients and harmony between flavours, textures, and nutrients. Itās simple yet elegant and reflects the heart of Japanese home cooking.
Iām planning to start sharing Japanese recipes focused on the theme of āIchiju Sansaiā (one soup, three dishes). Stay tuned and look forward to it!
Happy Cooking!
Aiko
